Wayne Bradford (Scout), a respected and well-known member of our tunnelling and mining community sadly passed away on 17th June 2023 at the age of 63 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Wayne started his career in 1981 after he completed his Associate Diploma of Surveying and joined Mount Isa Mines as a Surveyor. He went on to join Redpath (formerly EROC Pty Ltd) a major underground civil contractor on projects such as the Hazelbrook sewer tunnel, the Prospect to Pipehead water tunnel and the M2 road tunnels.
Later Wayne moved away from surveying and followed a Health and Safety career within Redpath based at their Head Office in Brisbane. Wayne coordinated many Health and Safety initiatives for the company and was passionate about ensuring that the correct procedures and training were in place for their various underground projects.
Wayne remarked, “My experience on the ground, or ‘at the face,’ has given me a front seat to the changes in health and safety in the industry over the last 40 years.”
Recently, Wayne kindly wrote the article “50 years of health and safety in tunnelling” for the ATS 50th Anniversary Journal.
Wayne is survived by his wife Leanne and their two children, Aaron and Zachary.
A service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at the Lakeview Chapel, Albany Creek Memorial Park, Bridgeman Downs on Friday 30th June 2023.
