Entries are now officially open for the 2019 edition of the David Sugden Award. The award was originally established in 2004 to encourage young engineers to develop the art of technical writing, and is named in honour of David Sugden who was a driving force behind the successful design of mechanical full-face rock excavation over a number of years.
Nominations for the award close on the 2nd of May, visit the David Sugden Award page for terms and conditions and submission portal. The winner will receive a ticket to WTC2020 to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The ATS is also looking to highlight the outstanding submissions from the 2018 edition of the David Sugden Award with the winner (Matthew Bennett) and two runners up (Aaron Lippett and Brodie Aitchison) touring the ATS chapters to present their papers. The roadshow will showcase the technical capability of the next generation of tunnellers, increase the visibility of this fantastic award and encourage young engineers to submit their papers for consideration. The events will also provide an great opportunity for networking between peers and senior tunnellers.
